Arthritis & Persistent Pain Treatment in Glasgow

Arthritis and persistent joint pain can affect mobility, confidence and quality of life. While osteopathy does not cure arthritis, it may help manage symptoms and support movement.

At Glasgow Osteopaths, we assess and treat joint pain from our clinics in Glasgow city centre, Paisley and Lenzie. Treatment focuses on improving joint function and supporting long-term management.

Understanding Arthritis and Ongoing Joint Pain

Arthritis involves changes within a joint that can lead to stiffness, discomfort and reduced range of motion. The most common form is osteoarthritis, often described as age-related joint change.

Persistent pain may also occur following previous injury or prolonged mechanical strain.

Common Symptoms We See

  • Joint stiffness, particularly in the morning
  • Reduced range of motion
  • Aching discomfort during or after activity
  • Swelling or joint tenderness

Where symptoms involve specific joints such as the hip or knee, you may also find our Hip & Knee Pain page helpful.

How Osteopathy Can Support Arthritis Management

Osteopathy aims to improve joint mobility and reduce muscular tension around affected areas. Treatment is adapted to your symptoms and stage of condition.

Treatment may include:

  • Gentle joint mobilisation
  • Soft tissue techniques
  • Advice on activity pacing
  • Exercises to support joint stability

Where inflammatory arthritis is suspected or active, we may advise consultation with your GP or specialist.

What to Expect at Your Arthritis Appointment

Your first consultation includes a detailed medical history and assessment of joint mobility and function. We consider lifestyle, activity level and previous medical advice before agreeing a plan.

For appointment length and pricing, please see our Fees & Offers page. We are recognised by Aviva, Bupa, Vitality and AXA PPP.

Tim is fantastic, did a thorough examination, stretching, massage and gave me exercises to do at home. I felt better by the end of the appointment. Highly recommend Tim.

I had an appointment with Tim Basset today and I was given detailed information about my back issues and how to correct it going forward. Tim is extremely knowledgable and a fantastic man with so much great advice. Not only did I leave feeling better than I went in but I also felt more positive about the future. I’ve spent years in and out of my GPS office miserable and no further forward so this is incredible to me. Thank you so much and I look forward to my next appointment.

One of the best specialists. I had huge problems with my back after slept disk. NHS done nothing then worse. I had lost so much time off from work and my normal
Life as a parent and daily routine . Wasn’t able to normal function. Dear Alessandro put me back on my feet, always work with dedication and passion and huge patience. I had wasted so much money and time for other privet clinics. But no much help just a for short time. Alessandro worked on my back and mobilise step by stem. Managed to get back on gym with demonstration of what and how to train to build up all strength, managed to play again with my kids and enjoy family outdoors activities. I’m fully back to work and after two years of full treatment and help now I can say I’m free from pain and can do what I love to do. Thank you Alesan

I've had three appointments with Rumain over the last 5 weeks. I've had back problems fot years but hurt it about two months ago. Couldn't suffer the pain any more so booked. Came out of the first session feeling so much better and every session since the results are unbelievable. The advice Rumain gives is so helpful.

I went to see Michelle Young for ongoing lower back pain that had been affecting my daily life for years but had got significantly worse in the past 6 months. The pain also had me relying on painkillers just to get through the day as gp/physio could not diagnose a cause. I honestly wish I had found her sooner. From the moment I met her, I felt completely at ease. Michelle has such a calm, kind presence and a real gift for making you feel heard and supported.

She took the time to understand not just where I was hurting, but how it was impacting my life. Her treatments were incredibly effective — I started to feel relief after one session. Over the next few sessions, my pain reduced significantly, and I also noticed improvements in my posture and overall comfort. I also no longer rely on painkillers to get through each day, something I never thought possible.

Michelle’s care goes beyond just the physical. Her sessions felt like a space to reset, breathe, laugh and feel looked after — something I didn’t realize I needed until I experienced it.

I can’t recommend her highly enough. If you’re struggling with lower back pain (or anything else), you’re in amazing hands with Michelle

I am now pain free for the first time in years. The whole experience has been amazing all the staff I encountered have been so friendly and welcoming.

I’ve been seeing Michelle on and off for about 2 years! I go when my body is broken, Michelle fixes it and we start the vicious circle again. Michelle is so lovely, funny and ultimately makes me feel at ease! She’s brilliant at what she does and is very knowledgeable. 10/10 service, the clinic is spotless, and it’s very chilled vibes.
