Headaches & Migraines Treatment in Glasgow
Headaches can range from a dull, tightening pressure to more severe pain that disrupts concentration and daily life. While some headaches are neurological in origin, others are linked to tension, posture and restricted movement in the neck and upper back.
At Glasgow Osteopaths, we assess and treat headache presentations from our clinics in Glasgow city centre, Paisley and Lenzie. Treatment focuses on identifying whether musculoskeletal factors may be contributing to your symptoms.

Types of Headaches We Commonly See
There are many different types of headaches. We frequently assess patients experiencing:
- Tension-type headaches, often described as a tight band around the head
- Cervicogenic headaches that begin in the neck and travel upwards
- Headaches linked to prolonged screen use or posture
- Migraine sufferers where neck tension may act as a trigger
If headaches are accompanied by significant neck stiffness or pain, you may also wish to read our Neck Pain page.
Why Headaches May Develop
Headaches can develop through a combination of muscular tension, joint restriction and lifestyle factors. Prolonged sitting, screen use and stress may increase strain in the neck and shoulders.
In cervicogenic headaches, reduced movement in the upper cervical spine can contribute to pain patterns that travel into the head. Migraines are neurological in nature, but musculoskeletal tension may influence their frequency or intensity in some individuals.
How Osteopathy Can Help With Headaches
Osteopathy aims to assess and improve movement in the neck, upper back and surrounding tissues where appropriate. A detailed case history is taken to understand the pattern of your headaches, possible triggers and any red flags that require medical referral.
Treatment may include:
- Gentle mobilisation of the neck and upper back
- Soft tissue techniques to reduce muscle tension
- Muscle energy techniques to improve restricted movement
- Postural advice for desk and screen work
- Exercises to support neck strength and mobility
For migraine sufferers, osteopathy does not replace medical care, but may form part of a wider management plan where neck tension is a contributing factor.
What to Expect at Your Headache Assessment
Your first appointment includes a detailed discussion of your symptoms, frequency and any associated features such as visual disturbance, nausea or sensitivity to light. We assess neck mobility, muscle balance and posture where appropriate.
If symptoms suggest a need for further medical investigation, we will advise accordingly. Where musculoskeletal factors are present, treatment and self-management guidance are tailored to your situation.
For appointment length and pricing, please see our Fees & Offers page. We are recognised by Aviva, Bupa, Vitality and AXA PPP.

- A sudden, severe “thunderclap” headache
- Headache following significant head injury
