Jaw Pain (TMJ) Treatment in Glasgow
Jaw pain can cause discomfort when chewing, talking or yawning. Some people notice clicking, locking or tension around the jaw and temples. In many cases, symptoms relate to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction.
At Glasgow Osteopaths, we assess and treat jaw-related pain from our clinics in Glasgow city centre, Paisley and Lenzie. Our approach considers both the jaw joint and related areas such as the neck and upper back.

What Is TMJ Dysfunction?
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects the jaw to the skull and works closely with the muscles of the face and neck. When this joint or surrounding tissues become irritated, symptoms such as clicking, tension or restricted movement can develop.
Jaw discomfort is often influenced by clenching, grinding, stress-related tension or reduced mobility in the neck and upper back.
Common Jaw and TMJ Symptoms
Jaw-related discomfort can present in different ways. We frequently see:
- Clicking or popping when opening the mouth
- Pain when chewing
- Jaw locking or restricted opening
- Facial tension
- Headaches linked to jaw or neck tension
Neck stiffness often accompanies TMJ symptoms. You can read more on our Neck Pain page.
How Osteopathy Can Help With Jaw Pain
Osteopathy aims to improve mobility in the jaw and surrounding structures while reducing muscle tension. Assessment includes jaw movement, neck mobility and posture.
Treatment may include:
- Gentle joint mobilisation
- Soft tissue techniques for jaw and neck muscles
- Advice on clenching or grinding habits
- Exercises to improve jaw control
If dental issues are suspected, we may recommend assessment by a dentist alongside osteopathic care.
